Shanghai Ocean University is an agricultural and forestry higher education institution jointly established by the Shanghai Municipal Government, the State Oceanic Administration, and the Ministry of Agriculture. Its predecessor was Jiangsu Provincial Fisheries School, founded in 1912. It was renamed Shanghai Fisheries College in 1952, Shanghai Fisheries University in 1985, and Shanghai Ocean University in 2008. As of May 2017, Shanghai Ocean University has three campuses: Pudong New Area Hucheng Ring Road Campus, Yangpu District Jungong Road Campus, and Yangpu District Minxing Road Campus. The main campus, Hucheng Ring Road Campus, covers an area of about 1600 acres and has a planned construction area of 586000 square meters. The completion of the Mechanical Foundation Laboratory has further improved the mechanical engineering program at Shanghai Ocean University!
